BRIDGING SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES
TO NURTURE THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW

- Our School and Community-based ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug) Prevention program strives to build and sustain a youth and community culture of substance free living.
- Program Goals
- to respond to school district needs related to ATOD prevention activities
- address ATOD prevention efforts for all school ages
- to involve the entire Wood County community in ATOD prevention efforts
- to build an array of effective ATOD prevention services through evaluation feedback
- to expand community resources to supplement prevention efforts
- Information services related to:
- Prom Promise, Red Ribbon Week, School Open Houses, Teachers and Staff Awareness, Community Fairs, Presentations, etc.
- Education services related to:
- Classroom presentations, Life Skills, Parent ATOD Education
- Alternative Activities related to:
- Teen institute, Red Ribbon, Research based after school programs, Learning Centers, Lock-Ins, Retreats, Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs
- Community based programming related to:
- Coalitions and collaboratives, teacher inservices, community collaboration, Red Ribbon campaign
- Environmental services related to:
- Policy formation concerning ATOD prevention, ATOD trends in the county, education relevant to advertising
- Problem identification related to:
- Screening youth for possible useage and referrals to appropriate agencies as and/or when needed
The ATOD program is funded through several local, state and federal grants, which allow us to offer a wide array of services to the youth of Wood County. Our current grants include:
- SCB grant (in Wood County since 1989): 77% funded by the Wood County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board; 23% funded by local schools.
- Reducing Alcohol Abuse in Secondary Students (RAASS) Grant (June 2008-June 2011)
- Drug testing grant (June 2008-June 2011)
- Safe Schools, Healthy Students grant (element 2, additional prevention programming for 4 years; grant received in 2009)
